Soju, Sensei, and Snow

It’s snowing here–and the roads are crazy! There were a lot of crashes this morning. People forget how to drive as soon as the first flakes fall. However, it was especially bad today since the roadway was untreated and the half-melted snow was refreezing super fast (especially on the bridges!) I almost wiped out several times, but luckily made it here okay! Which is good for several reasons, the first being that I have my Korean presentation later. The second being that I have to input my linguistics information before 10AM. Not fun.

I discovered that the Korea liquor Soju, although technically a rice drink, is now being made from a mixed concoction of grains–including barley and wheat–to make production cheaper. I discovered this because I have Celiac disease and am very (VERY) allergic to products containing gluten. Both wheat and barley contain gluten. Suffice it to say that last night was not fun…

In other news, I’ve been trying to dive into my Japanese a little bit more again. In doing so, the first place I went (of course) was to the J-Vlog crew on YouTube and also over to Maggie Sensei to study the great lessons there. Today’s lesson was rather apt:

It’s all about how to tell your friends you got completely wasted at the Christmas party you went to… or how to laugh at *them* because they were drunk. Pretty awesome all around actually!! ^_^

Wish me luck with my presentation!!!!!!!
